N\u00e4stan alla m\u00e4nskliga sjukdomar har n\u00e5gon komponent av genetisk variation; \u00e4ven om det finns n\u00e5gra som i grunden orsakas av verkan av endast en mutant gen (monogena sjukdomar) och dessa \u00e4r de mest mottagliga f\u00f6r en effektiv molekyl\u00e4r diagnos.<\/p>\n<p>I de flesta fall \u00e4r det m\u00f6jligt att praktisera molekyl\u00e4r diagnos av sjukdomar genom att identifiera motsvarande molekyl\u00e4ra f\u00f6r\u00e4ndringar eller mutationer, och tillhandah\u00e5lla en korrekt prenatal diagnos och effektiv genetisk r\u00e5dgivning f\u00f6r de drabbade patienterna och deras anh\u00f6riga.<\/p>\n<p>Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD) \u00e4r en teknik som kombinerar de senaste betydande framstegen inom molekyl\u00e4r genetik och assisterad reproduktionsteknologi. PGD g\u00f6r det m\u00f6jligt f\u00f6r l\u00e4kare att identifiera olika genetiska sjukdomar i embryot (befruktat \u00e4gg med flera delar) f\u00f6re implantation, det vill s\u00e4ga innan graviditeten \u00e4r etablerad.
