He graduated from Ankara University Faculty of Medicine in 1985. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine in 1991. In 1995, he became a Gastroentero-hepatology specialist by completing a minor specialization in the Department of Gastroenterohepatology, Faculty of Medicine, Istanbul University. During his specialization period, he worked for a while at Medizinische Hochschule Hannover University in Germany.

He established the Gastroenterology Department in Istanbul Şişli Etfal Training and Research Hospital for the first time. In 2008, he established Istanbul Science University Gastroenterology Department. Anticancer diseases of the digestive system and chronic liver diseases are of special interest. He is currently the head of the “Colon cancer and colorectal polyp working group” of the Turkish Gastroenterology Association.

Prof. Since 2007, Levent Erdem has been working on the diagnosis, medical and endoscopic treatment of digestive system and liver diseases in the Gastroenterohepatology Department of Bilim University and Group Florence Nightingale Hospitals.
