Our center is one of 8 project partners with the Turkish Society of Hematology, and thus participates also in scientific area both nationally and internationally.<\/p>\n<p>Over the years, thousands of patients diagnosed with leukemia, lymphoma, myelodysplasia, multiple myeloma and other blood cancers or disorders have applied to the <strong>Group Florence Nightingale Hospitals BMT Center<\/strong> as one of the most experienced, and well-known transplant center in Europe, and Turkey.<\/p>\n<p>\n<\/div><div class=\"btText\" ><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Fundementals of BMT at<\/strong> <strong>the Group Florence Nightingale Hospitals<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Accredited by Joint Accreditation Committee-ISCT &amp; EBMT (JACIE),<\/li>\n<li>High survival rate within the first year of BMT,<\/li>\n<li>Long disease-free survival after BMT,<\/li>\n<li>By the end of year 2019, 1106 BMTs have performed at our center.<\/li>\n<li>Life-long follow up program for transplanted patients,<\/li>\n<li>Center with dedicated team, high technology, and concrete scientific background,<\/li>\n<li>Our center is not only a healthcare provider, but also a training center. We participate in academic events via online training meetings for national and international hematologists working at BMT centers<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>What is Bone Marrow?\u00a0<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Bone marrow is a spongy material found in the hollow centres of some bones. It is important as it contains special cells known as stem cells.<\/p>\n<p>Stem cells create other specialised cells that carry out important functions. The new stem cells take over the production of the blood cells.<\/p>\n<p>In some circumstances, it may be possible to take your own bone marrow from another part of your body (this is known as autologous transplantation). The bone marrow may be cleared of any diseased cells before being returned.<\/p>\n<h3>Stages of BMT Process<\/h3>\n<p>There are five stages in the transplant process:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A physical examination of your body and general state of health<\/li>\n<li>Obtaining the stem cells that will be used in the transplant (known as harvesting)<\/li>\n<li>Preparing your body for the transplant (known as conditioning)<\/li>\n<li>Transplanting the stem cells<\/li>\n<li>The recovery period, during which you will be monitored for any side effects and complications<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Why BMT is Necessary?<\/h3>\n<p>Stem cell transplantations are often required to treat conditions that have damaged the bone marrow which, as a result, can no longer produce normal blood cells. Any disruption to the production of blood cells can be very serious, particularly if:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>You do not have enough red blood cells. Your body will be starved of oxygen, you will feel faint and tired and damage to your organs may occur.<\/li>\n<li>You do not have enough white blood cells. The cancer causes the white blood cells to replicate in an uncontrollable manner and they do not develop any infection-fighting properties.<\/p>\n<p>The cancerous cells can quickly spread through the bloodstream, resulting in a lack of room for red blood cells and platelets.<\/p>\n<p>This leads to symptoms of anaemia, increases the risk of serious infection, and means that you will bruise and bleed more easily.<\/p>\n<h4>Non-Hodgkin&#8217;s Lymphoma<\/h4>\n<p>Non-Hodgkin\u2019s lymphoma is another type of cancer of the hite blood cells. However, rather than spreading through the bloodstream, it spreads through the lymphatic system. The lymphatic system is a series of connected glands (nodes) that are spread throughout your body. It is an important part of your immune system, the body\u2019s natural defence against infection.<\/p>\n<h4>Inherited (Genetic) Blood Disorders<\/h4>\n<p>There are a number of genetic blood disorders where alterations (mutations) in your genes mean that blood cells do not develop normally.
